PH Strips

We have ph strips to tell us if there is the ph is too high, they had  them as well in the old days....only they were called, feathers. When mixing a batch of soap they would dip in a feather. If the feather dissolved there was too much lye in the batch.

Sun is starting to shine through a few clouds here in New Glasgow. Packaging has been a challenge. Templates, computer, and printer do not seem to conform to each other. Designing prototypes. Possible outlet in Halifax. We will see. Another England. Wasn't expecting that one, but would be nice. Now I know why England. Soap formulas are required to be certified by a specially trained chemist prior to being allowed for sale. Due to the various chemical interactions.  EU Directive coming in 2013.

Nice day in Halifax. This new spyware application that is out seems to cost a pretty penny. I hope whomever is using it on my site gets their moneys worth. But really all they had to do was read. Have a nice day, K.

And yes the glycerin is not the bad kind. I have its name when I get back home.

People in shorts today down at the water front having their lunches. And yes, it is glycerin used in the toothpaste to keep it from drying out when people leave the cap off. The good glycerin.

In soap Titanium Dioxide TiO2 is used to make clear soap white. It is an opague powder and reflects or scatters light of many frequencies, from infrared through ultraviolet. That is what makes our soaps white. Zinc oxide ZnO is another. Both can be used in cosmetics and toothpaste. Also sunblocks. Simon Quellen Field

Beautiful out today. Met with a few new people. Here in Canada we must notify Health Canada with ingredients in our products. And convert them into percentages. Thank goodness I have my Cordon Bleu book. This little town is bustling.

It seems to be difficult for Soap Crafters to get insurance in Canada. Wonder if it has to do with them making it smell like it's good enough to eat? Where's the threat " I am going to wash your mouth out with soap" if  the soap smells like bubblegum?  ....could be the ingredients.
